Hello….Ako Budoy
John Paul Perez, Miguel Buenaventura and Adrian Nico Nomus
We do not care much of teleseryes. It must be because we are boys. But in class this month, whenever a classmate makes a mistake or jokes around, we immediately tease him or her as “Budoy!” It will be followed by a loud laughter and everybody would join and chant , “Ako, Budoy! Ako, Budoy!” This was a mimic of the lines of Budoy, who had speech difficulty and talked like a baby.
Our teachers did not mind us that much since it seemed as though we were having a good time. But some pupils complained that they were quite hurt or insulted by such teasing. The girls would sometimes say, “ Tao lang po, nagkakamali!” (We’re just human beings, prone to make mistakes). The teasing slowed down a bit, because after some time, it was not that funny anymore.
Now in our times, we can see people who have mental illness scattered on streets. We also can see people teasing them instead of helping them. It made us question ourselves, “Do we really care for people like Budoy?” We wonder, “What would happen if we are in a situation like him?”
We agree the teleserye “Budoy” helped us to be sensitive to our fellow human beings, special or regular.
The Reason for the Season
Kathleen E, Dabalos
Christmas is a very symbolic season. It has been a very remarkable season since this was the season of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Since then, the celebration of his birth was passed on from generation to generation, until now.
During Christmas, people give and receive gifts. This is because of the gift that Christ had given for us -- his LIFE. And ever since then, this "tradition" of giving gifts had never been forgotten. You really couldn't ask for more!
According to my survey, the best part for people during this time, aside from being together with the family, is receiving gifts. This practice is what we particularly call, "EXCHANGE GIFTS". For so many generations that passed, "EXCHANGE GIFTS" has been one trademark of Christmas. It has been a lifestyle for so many people that it comes to a point that, when you come to think about Christmas, the first thing that pops out of your mind is, "EXCHANGE GIFTS".
People LOVE gifts -- things given for short (long). Things like: gadgets, kitchen wares, clothes, letters, toys, and whatever things you may be able to give for Christmas.
But why don't we pause for a minute and think of this: Jesus Christ was born in the very season of Christmas to give an eternal gift for all of us. This wasn't done for Him to be forgotten, but for Him to be remembered, all the days of our lives. And for the case of giving gifts, many people say that SHARING is the main subject in Christmas (diwa ng Pasko). But wouldn't there people who'll learn to share without Jesus being born? Yes, He shared his life for us, but the message He gave was not about sharing His life alone, but about His entire life, here on earth when he lived, and when He is still living -- WITH YOU.
